About Us
The Jaipur Wala makes quilts, bedding and home linen from soft cotton, printed with carved wooden blocks and stitched by artisans in Jaipur.
It is slow work. Every piece passes through the hands of block makers, dyers, printers and tailors, many of them women, before it reaches your home.

A craft that grew up with the city
When Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II founded Jaipur in 1727, he invited artisans to settle in his new city and open workshops. Block printers, many of them from Gujarat, made their home in nearby Sanganer, where the Banganga river gave them the water that dyeing and washing need.
Sanganer became known for fine flowers printed on white and off-white cotton, said to echo the painted walls of Amer Fort. That tradition is still at the heart of what we make: small blooms, soft grounds and colours that feel calm in a bedroom.
From block to bed
Four steps, each one done by hand.
- Carve the block. A block maker carves the design into wood by hand. A print with several colours needs a separate block for each colour.
- Mix the colour. The cotton is washed so it takes colour evenly, and each colour is mixed and spread in a shallow tray.
- Print by hand. The printer presses the block into the colour, then onto the cloth, lining up every repeat by eye along the table.
- Wash and stitch. The printed cloth is washed and dried, then cut and stitched into quilts, bedspreads and sheets.
